Lyrics from nowhere, harmonies like magic and all-singing all-dancing choruses, musical improvisation looks a bit like a miracle. And it doesn’t require special skills, knowledge of musical theory, or a background in musical theatre. You don’t even need to be able to sing. Like any improv, you create a character, build the emotion, and work with your partner (and the musician). Great songs come out of great scenes.
Breaking down musical improv into manageable chunks, our twelve-week introduction will take you from your first ‘la-la-la’ to set games, open scenes, and songs, even a showing in front of family and friends*.
Not just for those who already love to sing, this course builds emotional expression, freedom, and confidence. Skills which can be applied in any improv class, as well as elsewhere in your life. After all, if you can improvise a whole song, what can’t you do?
5 skills you’ll learn with us during Level 4-Music 1:
This course assumes a working knowledge of improv scenes and is not recommended for new improvisers. It is best suited to those who have taken AndAlso’s level three or similar training. This is about a year of regular improv practice, including the core skills of longform improv. Email us on hello@andalsoimprov.com to discuss if this is the right course for you.
*Although most of our students perform at the end of their courses, all showings are optional. They are not tests or graduations; they are just a chance to do what you have been doing in class and receive the adulation of your loved ones.
Level 4 Musical Improv runs for 12 weeks, with a 1-week break after the sixth week. The course starts on Wednesday 15th January with your end-of-term showing in week 12.
