April 5th @ 16:00 - April 7th @ 16:00

£100.00

Have it your way. Think different. Just do it.  We are surrounded by invitations to discover, examine, and express our authentic selves. To discover who we are and live honestly by that. Dig down, the narrative goes, see who you really are and the rest of your life will fall into line.

But what if you just didn’t? What if you just did something different? What if you were someone different, just for a weekend? Because sometimes it’s hard to know who you are. We contain multitudes, and change from day to day. And sometimes even when you think we do know, that identity is the very thing you are trying to escape. Because habits can be traps and blind spots, opportunities for growth. The things we are best at can become the things we cannot stop doing.

In our Spring retreat, we ask you to step out of the most pernicious improv habit of all: being yourself. Over three days, we will examine what improv means to you, what you want from it, and what you want to put into it. You will play in a variety of different ways, familiar and new, seeing how they serve you and what happens when you just decide to not.

Syllabus includes:

  • Your strengths and habits as an improviser, when they help you and when they hold you back
  • Your areas of possible growth, both the quick wins and the longer-term projects
  • What elements of your improv life may be holding you back, and what changes you might make

This retreat has musical and longform classes. The musical stream is taught by Heather Urquhart with music from Joe Samuel and the longform stream by Jules Munns. This retreat is aimed at improvisers with two or more years of regular practice. Email us to talk about if it is the right choice for you.
