But in 1976\, he was ‘outed’ as Alice B Sheldon\, a 61-year-old woman from Virginia who had to face the repercussions to her life and career. \nA life full of boundary-breaking\, brilliance and experimentation\, she struggled with depression\, gender barriers and sexuality; some found her frustrating and difficult\, but many more loved her. It is also a way of looking at the world\, at other people and even at yourself. All while still being guaranteed to make you laugh. Improv is a lot of things. You might call it yoga for the soul. Or mindfulness for show-offs (though lots of non-show-offs do it too). \nNow\, this all sounds very good\, but what does improv really feel like? What can you expect from one of our courses? AndAlso’s taster sessions are an opportunity to dip your toe in and see what an improv class is. During the session\, you will be introduced to core improv principles like ‘yes and’\, support and being obvious. With a low-pressure group warm-up and a selection of group and pair exercises\, you will get a glimpse of what improv really means. Come spend a zero-commitment 90 minutes with us and let us share a little bit of what we love to do. There may even be a discount for our beginner’s courses. \nAndAlso welcomes anyone over the age of 18\, regardless of background\, education\, physical ability\, sexuality and gender\, language or any other form of identity. DESCRIPTION:Do you want to feel more relaxed and creative? To learn improvisation in a sociable\, collaborative way? Or maybe meet new people in a friendly environment\, to laugh hard and maybe even surprise yourself. \nAndAlso’s first level introduces the core skills of improvisation in the form of listening\, saying ‘Yes And’ and trusting the process. All this while learning to love failure. In doing these simple things\, you will find the delight of creating on the fly. Simple improv exercises give you opportunities to reflect on your habits and maybe even change them. The first step to becoming a seasoned improviser\, and maybe making your life just a little bit easier. \nOver two six-week blocks\, our expert teachers will guide even the most nervous of new improvisers from simple games through more complex structures into the basics of scene work\, concentrating both on the immediate fun and how to apply your new skills outside the classroom. \nOur level 1a is perfect if you have never done any improvisation before or want to brush up your skills. DESCRIPTION:Improv is theatre (or comedy) without a script. It’s stories and scenes made up on the spot. But it is many other things as well. It is a great way to build confidence and calm under pressure. And to work on your creativity. And to just meet people. It is also a way of looking at the world\, at other people and even at yourself. All while still being guaranteed to make you laugh. Improv is a lot of things. You might call it yoga for the soul. Or mindfulness for show-offs (though lots of non-show-offs do it too). \nNow\, this all sounds very good\, but what does improv really feel like? What can you expect from one of our courses? AndAlso’s taster sessions are an opportunity to dip your toe in and see what an improv class is. During the session\, you will be introduced to core improv principles like ‘yes and’\, support and being obvious. With a low-pressure group warm-up and a selection of group and pair exercises\, you will get a glimpse of what improv really means. Come spend a zero-commitment 90 minutes with us and let us share a little bit of what we love to do. There may even be a discount for our beginner’s courses. \nAndAlso welcomes anyone over the age of 18\, regardless of background\, education\, physical ability\, sexuality and gender\, language or any other form of identity. We believe improv can be for anyone\, and pride ourselves on making our classes accessible and friendly. And it’s also a really fun time. \nWith a different theme every week\, our drop in classes are an opportunity to try improv for the first time\, get back into it or just mess about in a warm\, supportive environment. Over two hours\, AndAlso’s expert teachers will guide even the most inexperienced improviser to create characters\, scenes and stories. You might even learn a few things that can be applied off the stage. \nOur drop in classes are suitable for anyone over the age of 18 and feature a combination of games in different group sizes\, from pairs to the whole class. Musical improv is maybe a bit like cheating. \nAvailable in Brighton and Online\, our musical Improv drop ins are for everyone over the age of 18\, from the improv music newbie\, to the twenty-year player. You don’t need any musical improv experience\, or even the ability to sing. Our expert teachers and musician will make you look like lyrical and musical geniuses. DESCRIPTION:Scene Better: An Improv Drop-in Class\nA musician does their scales\, an artist does life drawing\, and a tennis player does a thousand serves and volleys. What is the improviser’s equivalent? How do we spend our ten thousand hours? The answer is simple: doing scenes. The building block of an improv show or class\, improv scenes are always changing\, flexible and fascinating. There are a thousand ways to play them well\, but a hundred thousand ways to play them badly. Whether you are aiming to be a professional performer\, be part of a team or just keep your mind flexible and responsive\, solid scene skills are essential.  \nAddressing a different element of scenework each week\, with lots of opportunities for practice\, applicable skills and expert feedback\, the AndAlso Scenes Drop-In is your Monday night improv workout.
