DESCRIPTION:Scene Better: An Improv Drop-in Class\nA musician does their scales\, an artist does life drawing\, and a tennis player does a thousand serves and volleys. What is the improviser’s equivalent? How do we spend our ten thousand hours? The answer is simple: doing scenes. The building block of an improv show or class\, improv scenes are always changing\, flexible and fascinating. There are a thousand ways to play them well\, but a hundred thousand ways to play them badly. Whether you are aiming to be a professional performer\, be part of a team or just keep your mind flexible and responsive\, solid scene skills are essential.  \nAddressing a different element of scenework each week\, with lots of opportunities for practice\, applicable skills and expert feedback\, the AndAlso Scenes Drop-In is your Monday night improv workout. DESCRIPTION:Improv is theatre (or comedy) without a script. It’s stories and scenes made up on the spot. But it is many other things as well. It is a great way to build confidence and calm under pressure. And to work on your creativity. And to just meet people. It is also a way of looking at the world\, at other people and even at yourself. All while still being guaranteed to make you laugh. Improv is a lot of things. You might call it yoga for the soul. Or mindfulness for show-offs (though lots of non-show-offs do it too). \nNow\, this all sounds very good\, but what does improv really feel like? What can you expect from one of our courses? AndAlso’s taster sessions are an opportunity to dip your toe in and see what an improv class is. During the session\, you will be introduced to core improv principles like ‘yes and’\, support and being obvious. With a low-pressure group warm-up and a selection of group and pair exercises\, you will get a glimpse of what improv really means. Come spend a zero-commitment 90 minutes with us and let us share a little bit of what we love to do. There may even be a discount for our beginner’s courses. \nAndAlso welcomes anyone over the age of 18\, regardless of background\, education\, physical ability\, sexuality and gender\, language or any other form of identity. We believe improv can be for anyone\, and pride ourselves on making our classes accessible and friendly. From the West End of London to the National Theatre of Malawi\, via festivals in Finland\, pubs in Peckham and experiments at the Edinburgh Fringe\, we have performed with groups including Impromptu Shakespeare (which Jules created)\, the Brighton-Fringe-Award-winning Maydays and the Olivier-award-winning Showstopper! The Improvised Musical. Jules was the artistic director of the Nursery Theatre and Heather directs Unbridled: An Improvised Jilly Cooper Novel. DESCRIPTION:Improv is theatre (or comedy) without a script. It’s stories and scenes made up on the spot. But it is many other things as well. It is a great way to build confidence and calm under pressure. And to work on your creativity. And to just meet people. It is also a way of looking at the world\, at other people and even at yourself. All while still being guaranteed to make you laugh. Improv is a lot of things. You might call it yoga for the soul. Or mindfulness for show-offs (though lots of non-show-offs do it too). \nNow\, this all sounds very good\, but what does improv really feel like? What can you expect from one of our courses? AndAlso’s taster sessions are an opportunity to dip your toe in and see what an improv class is. During the session\, you will be introduced to core improv principles like ‘yes and’\, support and being obvious. With a low-pressure group warm-up and a selection of group and pair exercises\, you will get a glimpse of what improv really means. Come spend a zero-commitment 90 minutes with us and let us share a little bit of what we love to do. There may even be a discount for our beginner’s courses. \nAndAlso welcomes anyone over the age of 18\, regardless of background\, education\, physical ability\, sexuality and gender\, language or any other form of identity. DESCRIPTION:Want a deeper dive into improv scenes and forms? An opportunity to work with more experienced players and the feedback you need to really push yourself? \nDifferent each week\, our Experienced Drop-In is like a gym for those developing their improv. It’s where you can put in your ten thousand hours\, and still have a laugh along the way. \nOver this two-hour class\, you will be guided through more challenging scenework and longform exercises and given close\, practical feedback on how to improve your work and feel freer and more empowered as you do so. These classes will sometimes experiment with new ideas and sometimes experiment to push the boundaries of the form. \nThis class is for those who have a year’s improv experience or more\, including scene work and some longform.
