From the soulful and poetic to the plain dumb\, join us for a welcoming\, inclusive evening in a cosy place down by the beach. \nMarch 14th – 19.30 – doors 19:00 – Daltons\, Brighton seafront \nTen Thousand Million – AndAlso directors Heather Urquhart and Jules Munns\, back onstage with their two-person show. As seen across the world\, from Austin to Karachi. Two of the UK’s most experienced improvisers. Dumb and smart at the same time.  \nThe Armando – A classic US improv show\, performed by an invited cast of improvisers. Follow our social media for casting announcements.  \nVeterans of almost twenty years of make-em-ups\, Heather and Jules have improvised for audiences across the globe for audiences from eight to two thousand. From the West End of London to the National Theatre of Malawi\, via festivals in Finland\, pubs in Peckham and experiments at the Edinburgh Fringe\, we have performed with groups including Impromptu Shakespeare (which Jules created)\, the Brighton-Fringe-Award-winning Maydays and the Olivier-award-winning Showstopper! The Improvised Musical. Jules was the artistic director of the Nursery Theatre and Heather directs Unbridled: An Improvised Jilly Cooper Novel. SUMMARY:Free Improv Taster Session - 7th March
DESCRIPTION:Improv is theatre (or comedy) without a script. It’s stories and scenes made up on the spot. But it is many other things as well. It is a great way to build confidence and calm under pressure. And to work on your creativity. And to just meet people. It is also a way of looking at the world\, at other people and even at yourself. All while still being guaranteed to make you laugh. Improv is a lot of things. You might call it yoga for the soul. Or mindfulness for show-offs (though lots of non-show-offs do it too). \nNow\, this all sounds very good\, but what does improv really feel like? What can you expect from one of our courses? AndAlso’s taster sessions are an opportunity to dip your toe in and see what an improv class is. During the session\, you will be introduced to core improv principles like ‘yes and’\, support and being obvious. With a low-pressure group warm-up and a selection of group and pair exercises\, you will get a glimpse of what improv really means. Come spend a zero-commitment 90 minutes with us and let us share a little bit of what we love to do. There may even be a discount for our beginner’s courses. \nAndAlso welcomes anyone over the age of 18\, regardless of background\, education\, physical ability\, sexuality and gender\, language or any other form of identity. We believe improv can be for anyone\, and pride ourselves on making our classes accessible and friendly. DESCRIPTION:Improv is theatre (or comedy) without a script. It’s stories and scenes made up on the spot. But it is many other things as well. It is a great way to build confidence and calm under pressure. And to work on your creativity. And to just meet people. It is also a way of looking at the world\, at other people and even at yourself. All while still being guaranteed to make you laugh. Improv is a lot of things. You might call it yoga for the soul. Or mindfulness for show-offs (though lots of non-show-offs do it too). \nNow\, this all sounds very good\, but what does improv really feel like? What can you expect from one of our courses? AndAlso’s taster sessions are an opportunity to dip your toe in and see what an improv class is. During the session\, you will be introduced to core improv principles like ‘yes and’\, support and being obvious. With a low-pressure group warm-up and a selection of group and pair exercises\, you will get a glimpse of what improv really means. Come spend a zero-commitment 90 minutes with us and let us share a little bit of what we love to do. There may even be a discount for our beginner’s courses. \nAndAlso welcomes anyone over the age of 18\, regardless of background\, education\, physical ability\, sexuality and gender\, language or any other form of identity. We believe improv can be for anyone\, and pride ourselves on making our classes accessible and friendly. DESCRIPTION:Are you ready to experiment with your improv and learn to play in different ways? Do you want to break the show and reform it\, and see what happens when you do? Want to be whimsical\, comical\, and human in scenes one after the other? \nOur level 5 introduces you to other classic improv forms that go beyond the Harold. Still with close feedback and teacher guidance to help you improve\, level 5 shows how the form creates the content\, and the content powers the form. Not just what are we doing\, but why? How does this all work? \nFor more confident improvisers with a solid grounding in longform core skills and how to apply them in performance\, our level 5 introduces three new structures\, each with its own challenges\, rhythms\, secrets and delights. You will see what connects them and how they are different\, developing the taste and discernment that comes with in-depth knowledge.  \nEach course is based around three classic Chicago-style longform structures\, all of which share some structural similarities\, but are very different in their execution. These three forms are chosen from the following by your teacher: \n\nThe Deconstruction: One recurring core scene surrounded by shorter scenes that unpack\, comment on\, satirise and investigate the relationship in the core. A great grounding for narrative improvisation. \nDetours: Repeat\, repeat\, vary\, and repeat. Detours take a single short scene and replays and varies it\, examining what did and did not happen\, how the elements can be mirrored in other contexts\, and asking the impossible: can you replay a scene that you have only seen once?\nThe Bat: Like a Harold\, but performed in the dark\, and with all of the formality thrown out the window. Snatches of scenes\, monologues\, textures and soundscapes appear and disappear in a dreamlike\, surreal fashion. The imagination does the rest. \nThe Eventé: One big day\, seen from every angle. Starting from a a wedding\, graduation\, restaurant opening or other significant event\, this form opens up the causes\, consequences\, characters\, and atmosphere. The aim of this class is to explore how we improvise without a set end goal\, discovering what works and doesn’t for each individual\, making you more flexible and responsive to your partner\, the situation and how you are feeling in the scene. Come do a class of exactly the improv that you want and need right now. \nThis online class is highly experimental\, and recommended for people that have three or more years of regular improv experience. An opportunity to work with more experienced players and the feedback you need to really push yourself? \nDifferent each week\, our Experienced Drop-In is like a gym for those developing their improv. It’s where you can put in your ten thousand hours\, and still have a laugh along the way. \nOver this two-hour class\, you will be guided through more challenging scenework and longform exercises and given close\, practical feedback on how to improve your work and feel freer and more empowered as you do so. These classes will sometimes experiment with new ideas and sometimes experiment to push the boundaries of the form. \nThis class is for those who have a year’s improv experience or more\, including scene work and some longform.
