February 24th @ 19:30 - March 31st @ 21:30

Virtual Event Virtual Event
£120.00 – £350.00

You’ve put in the hours. You’ve been to courses, read books, listened to podcasts, run jams and played played played. And you feel like you want to give something back. So how do you take the next step and start to teach? What do you want to say? How do you structure a class? What should always be there and what depends on the topic? And how on earth do you describe an exercise clearly?

In this hybrid on- and off-line class, you will be given an introduction to the core skills of teaching improvisation and opportunities to share your experiences. You will also have the opportunity asked to reflect on your own improvisation in order to know what kind of teacher you want to be.

Syllabus includes:

  • You as an improviser and teacher: what do you want and what do you have to offer?
  • Why, how and what: Briefing an exercise
  • What professionalism means: Holding a room, giving instructions and notes
  • Holding boundaries and having difficult conversations
  • One thing after another: the joy and limits of planning
  • I never thought of that: a brief intro to online improvisation
  • Come to my class: writing copy

This class is a hybrid, composed of one introductory online session on the 25th of February 7-9:30 pm, a weekend in Brighton on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th of March 10:30-16:30, and a final online session on the 31st March 7-9:30 pm.

Group classes will have a maximum of 10 participants.

This class has three prices: one aimed at new teachers, one for people wishing to level up their current practice and one for if this course is being paid for by an organisation. You can also treat these prices as concession and donation prices. It is up to you which one you pick and no evidence will need to be provided.

Please note: Saturday 8th March will be held at BHASVIC & Sunday 9th March will be held at Lantern Theatre, both sessions 10:30-16:30 in Brighton.
