Jason Chin was a Chicago improviser, teacher and all-round inspiration. He created many shows including Dinner for Six, Whirled News Tonight (the inspiration for Tonight’s Top Story) and Jedi! A Musical Tour de Force. He was a regular cast member on the Armando, one of the longest-running shows at iO. He liked Captain America, dinosaurs and President John Adams. In his time at iO, he worked with such people as Tina Fey, Jordan Klepper and John Lutz. He was a true evangelist for improv and one of the most friendly people you would ever meet. He was also a friend and mentor of many in the Brighton improv community. He died in 2015 at the age of just 46.
Since his death, the Maydays have offered a retreat scholarship in his name and AndAlso are proud to continue this tradition. Each year, we offer a full scholarship to The Maydays Improv retreat to someone who is spreading the joy of improv. This can mean that you are creating an improv community where there has not been one before, that you are reaching out to a set of people underrepresented in improv or that you are breaking new ground artistically. If coming to The Maydays retreat in November will help you, you can apply below.
This scholarship covers a dormitory room with full board and all tuition. You are expected to attend the whole retreat and organise your own transport. For any further questions please email us on hello@andalsoimprov.com.
