Alan is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, producer and creative facilitator who brings a musician’s ear and an improviser’s mindset to every room he works in.
He has performed internationally across Europe, the US, South America and Australia, with appearances ranging from cruise ships and concert halls to Glastonbury Festival, BBC Radio, and Channel 4. Alan has been improvising with the acclaimed improv company The Maydays, since 2010. His musical talents and technical expertise make him a go-to collaborator for improvised musicals, live scoring, and sound-led creative sessions.
At AndAlso, Alan specialises in using musical improvisation and sound to unlock creative confidence, listening skills and group flow. His facilitation style is warm, encouraging and finely attuned—creating spaces where people can take risks, find their voice, and genuinely connect.
Alan’s background spans everything from recording studios to theatre stages, orchestras to solo street performances. He was also the first musician to play on top of Brighton’s i360 (a gig that was literally above the clouds).
Favourite improv moment: Busking a fully improvised musical set outside the Edinburgh Fringe on a sunny day, and watching a crowd gather, stay—and start singing along.
