AndAlso Talent Development Programme – Call for Applications

AndAlso is looking for Brighton improvisers who are serious about getting better, with a view to becoming part of a weekly show at an exciting new venue. Continuing an improv tradition begun by The Maydays, AndAlso Improv brings top-quality improv shows and classes to Brighton. Later in 2025, we are opening a little theatre in the Laines and are looking to train improvisers to perform there. We want to fill our theatre with shows that are appealing to tourists and locals alike, which balance artistic quality with the ability to appeal to people who have never seen improv before.  First up will be a weekly improv show with a rotating cast of experienced and newer players, some of whom will come through our Talent Development programme. You will be performing alongside experienced Brighton players and guests from London and further afield. Some of them may be well known (at least in improv terms).

Who We’re Looking For

We are auditioning for bold and enthusiastic performers of all ages and backgrounds, with experience in comedy, theatre, or musical theatre, to form a company of improvisers focused on quality, community, and support. Ideal candidates will:
  • Have an understanding of the core skills of improv
  • Initiate and follow boldly
  • Work well in a group
  • Have stage presence (including a strong voice)
  • Take direction
AndAlso is a sister company of The Maydays, which has been running improv classes and performances in Brighton for twenty years, making it one of the oldest improv communities in the UK. Performers who have trained with either company are welcome to audition, as well as those with other relevant training or experience. We are unlikely to audition those with no performance experience.

Although we know we want to create a community of passionate and skilled improvisers, the exact form of this training will evolve as we learn what our theatre requires. Which means all of the above is subject to change. We will do our best to communicate clearly at all times but anticipate that this will never be perfect. We thank you for your patience when we fail. .  Our aim is to create a community that encourages and nurtures improvisational excellence. Behaviour that does not support this, or which creates a hostile or unpleasant environment will not be tolerated. Nor will any exhibition of racism, ageism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia or other forms of discrimination.  We are especially, but not solely, interested in applications from those not historically represented in improvisation and comedy, including but not limited to people of the global majority, neurodiverse individuals, and those from Brighton’s queer community. We believe that a diverse range of experiences and backgrounds enriches our performances and our community.
